HD DVD and Blu-ray DRM Cracked
AACS (Advanced Access Content System), the security standard used to enforce Digital Rights Management on new high definition media has been cracked. That didn’t take long at all! We all know the DRM used in old school DVDs has been cracked forever, but now the new and improved security used in HD DVD and Blu-ray can also be circumvented. Basically, it involved hours of searching the memory of a system playing one of these discs for particular bits of information, which are used as keys in the encryption. All the details, right from the source, are in this Doom9 thread. Supposedly there are mechanisms for recovering from this kind of crack, but I’m sure they will only be temporary.
